Dear Students
Congratulations on the first publication of your own student newsletter: written by students for students.
Thank you for all of your wonderful contributions of what you have been doing at home: your personal stories, recipes, diary entries, drama pieces and more! Please keep sending them to me at jdevlin@buckinghamschool.org or share with me in Google Classroom, code p5aznbg, for June’s publication.
What you want to write about is entirely up to you. Here are some ideas to get you started: you could write about what you are missing about school, what your favourite home learning activity has been so far, how you are keeping in contact with your friends or what new skills you have learnt. You can write a short story, a blog, a diary entry, a letter or a poem for example.
Each month there will be a competition to win a £10 Amazon Voucher. Next month’s competition is a piece of descriptive writing of 150 to 200 words. Contact me to find out more.
I look forward to receiving your contributions.
With best wishes
Mrs J Devlin

Holly Evans and her mum have made a stick version of the famous Andy Warhol painting of Marilyn Monroe. It’s not quite finished - it should be finished in five days.
This painting is made up of painted stick and wool. However, some shading is just white board pen and it’s all stuck together with a hot glue gun giving it an effect to show that not even Miss Monroe was perfect.

Things I’ve been doing during quarantine - By Kasey
I’ve been cooking loads of new things that I have never cooked or baked before. Such as honeycomb! It was quite easy to make seeing as I only needed butter, flour, golden syrup and sugar.
I’ve also been trying to help my mum out by keeping my room tidy and helping tidying the house up.
I dip-dyed my hair! It was so much fun to do because I chose a nice pinky-purple colour and at first it didn’t show up but then my mum put more on and it started to show up. It turned out amazing!
Finally, I have been practising my singing! Every day I’ve put my playlist on and sang along to every word. Whether I’m in a bad mood or not I persevere and think “yes, I need to do this”! Sometimes it annoys my family but I don't care. I just shut my door and carry on. Most of my friends say I'm amazing at singing but I don’t know.
And these are all the things I have got up to in quarantine!

Have you ever seen a Pink Super Moon? No? Well this is an extremely rare phenomenon. Not only was the Moon that appeared in the skies on the 7th of April 2020 a Super Moon, but also a Pink Super Moon.
The Pink Moon falls on the Spring Equinox, and it just so happened that this April the two events coincided! You may have noticed a slightly bigger and brighter Moon - at the beginning of April - than what you may have thought was usual and you would be right. It shines 30% brighter and appears 14% bigger! It appears this way because it is making its closest pass to Earth, this is known as the Perigee. The moon is 7.2% closer to the Earth, on average that is 356,910 km!
The weirdest thing for me was that it was biggest and the most pink at the rise and fall. However in the middle of the night it was so bright it felt like I was looking at the Sun! It is the first full moon following the Spring Equinox.
Fun Facts:
Super Moons have been blamed for everything from madness and flooding to even destroying the Earth!
The Sun’s gravity is responsible for pulling the
Earth and Moon into a closer alignment!
Finally, winter Super Moons look larger, because the Earth is closest to the Sun in December!
I took the pictures through the night. The moon was at its biggest and most pink from about 6.30pm but the brightest images were after midnight.

Dear Diary,
These last couple of weeks have been really hard. I have been missing all my friends so much and haven't really been able to talk to them because we are never online at the same time. Covid 19, also known as the coronavirus, is getting really bad and starting to scare me and all my friends and family.
Over the Easter holidays I have been baking cakes, scones and rice crispy bites that really made me feel a bit better. I never thought I would ever say this but I miss school. It is really hard working from home because you wish the teacher was saying what you have to do and you also don't have to worry about the wifi going down or your computer breaking in the middle of the school day; and that is the last thing I need right now.
Hopefully, everything will go back to normal in a couple of weeks so I can see my friends. I also hope the NHS gets a bit of a break and they find a cure so nobody else dies because of this awful virus that will go down in history.
I have been playing ’Frustration’ with my family and playing with my dogs and with my little sister, that has been keeping us occupied a little bit. To get a little bit of exercise my family and I have been going on bike rides that have been about 12 miles each on a very hilly route.

Dear Diary,
I am currently being homeschooled which isn't the best because I am finding it hard. I prefer school because I get to see all my friends and teachers. Also, the teachers describe the work but when you are at home school is harder because you don't have a teacher who can help you. I know some people disagree with me and that's fine because we all have our own opinions, but for me I would rather be at school.
Yours kindly

Dear Diary,
Today I woke up at 7:30 and went downstairs to get some breakfast. I had Rice Krispies. After that I washed up and went upstairs and brushed my teeth. Today I had school so I packed my bag and got into some clothes.
When I got to school we did the register then the Joe Wicks video workout and then we started doing our classes. At 11:00 we went to the sports hall for 30 minutes to play with balls. At 11:30 we went to Mr Middleton's room and painted door stops and keyrings. Then when we were finished we went for lunch and after lunch we went on an hour's walk.
I then went home, had a shower and changed. When I was finished it was time for dinner. Happily I ate all of it, washed up, and then went to bed.

Film Review by Haiden Bentley Major
Jumanji: The Next Level
I would recommend this film for anyone 12 or above due to adult humor and violence. I also rate this film 5 stars.
When Spencer goes back into the fantastical world of Jumanji, pals Martha, Fridge and Bethany re-enter the game to bring him home. But the game is now broken -- and fighting back. Everything the friends know about Jumanji is about to change, as they soon discover there are more obstacles and more danger to overcome.
The film's plot takes place three years after Welcome to the Jungle, in which the same group of teenagers, along with an old friend and two unwitting additions, become trapped in Jumanji. There, they all find themselves facing new problems and challenges with both old and new avatars, while having to save the land from a new villain in order to escape.
Other companies’ ratings:
IMDB 4 stars; Common Sense Media 3 stars; Rotten Tomatoes 4 stars
This film is an action / comedy which is a very popular genre style nowadays, also this film is very easy to find. You can find it in most supermarkets, Sky, YouTube (you have to pay for the proper version) and even Google, all for a reasonable price.

Covid 19 Disaster 2020 by Alfie Ashbridge
Everyone must stay at home to help stop coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading. Wash your hands with soap and water often to reduce the risk of infection.
To stop the spread of coronavirus, you should only leave the house for very limited purposes.
shopping for basic necessities for example food and medicine which must be as infrequent as possible
one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk or cycle – alone or with members of your household any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home
These reasons are exceptions. Even when doing these activities, you should minimise time spent outside of the home and ensure you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.
You should also:
wash your hands with soap and water often – for at least 20 seconds
wash your hands as soon as you get home
cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands
not touch your face if your hands are not clean
Me and my Dad’s walks
When me and my dad go for a walk. We don’t see as many people out and if we see people they walk away or we have to walk away from them but normally they cross the road. And now when we want to get food, we have to line up 2 metres apart from each other outside the shop and you can’t all go in at once; it is limited now because of the Covid 19.

My Super Hero
My super hero is my 5-year-old brother, Charlie.
Things he likes - going to school - walking through the woods - being funny - playing with trains - playing with Teddy (dog) and dressing up!
Charlie was born with autism. He is an amazing brother. He is loving, caring and a joy to be around. Sometimes he doesn’t understand things like the Coronavirus and why he’s not allowed to go to school or to the shops with mum but he always manages to put a smile on his face. We go for long walks around town which helps him to fall asleep and sometimes I read him a little story if he can’t sleep.

A Poem by Charlie Weedon
I need my head to rest on my bed
So I am ready for the hard day ahead,
I will be ready for 10am
To do all my work.
Apparently, we are meant to be going to school
But I got told no,
So I am now a fool.
If I do not dream
All I will do is scream;
So I must dream
Then I will not scream.
I need sleep
Or else I will be in a mood
And when you see Charlie in a mood
I suggest you run!

My Perfect Day by Ewan Ryley
My perfect day would be waking up in the morning with no special treatment or anything fancy but to have a nice breakfast with my family without fighting. I would have to be a lot less annoying because I have to admit, I am. My dad would be having a full English breakfast, mum - eggs benedict, Alysia - salmon and cream cheese on a muffin. I would have 2 croissants.
In the day we would do what would be normal to most people except we would usually go away to our own corners.
1st - we would get changed and go on a dog walk together.
2nd - come back home, have some hot drinks and our lunch.
3rd - after lunch we have all of our relatives and friends in a house party at Alfie’s
(because he has a proper pool) and have tea together.
4th - we would go to the cinema rent out a room for all of us and watch onward (because of the younger ones)
5th - we would have a sleepover together and that would be the end of the day.

What is Earth day?
Earth Day is a name used for two similar global observances. While some people celebrate Earth Day around the time of the March Equinox, others observe the occasion on April 22 each year. People unite on Earth Day to appreciate and respect earth’s environment. Earth Day aims to inspire awareness and appreciation for Earth’s environment.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, it now includes events coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network in more than 193 countries.
Do you think it is important to have events like these?
I think that it is important to have events like these because we appreciate the Earth and have a day just to think about what we should be grateful for. It is also to make more awareness to what we can do to help the earth and how to stop things that destroy our earth.
by Lola Belcourt
Earth Day is a Specific Day
where people all over the world dedicate their efforts to helping the earth and multiple organisms that inhabit it (e.g. Plants, Amphibians, Mammals). It includes activities such as planting certain types of plants in one’s garden, using less electricity in homes, saving water. People also choose to help animals that may be endangered and some groups of people help clean the beaches that reflect the issue of pollution in the sea because of the large amount of plastic waste that can be found there.
by Rowan Swallow
How I Celebrated Earth Day 2020
On Earth Day I fed my snail, Larry, some leaves and took him out on a walk. Larry is around 1 cm big, he is a small baby >.<! I got Larry on October 18, 2019. He was found on the handle of my front door and I decided to take him in my home and take care of him. This is a contribution to Earth day as I’m helping small insects with their daily living and possibly preventing them from becoming instinct.
No, I have not kept him hostage in a container; fortnightly I take him to my garden and let him roam around under my eyes for half an hour. There has been MANY escape attempts...
Also, I HATE bugs!
by Nimrah Athar
How I celebrated Earth Day
I planted some sweetcorn seeds and watered them and then did a tidy up of the garden and helped my mum on her allotment.
by James Keer
We have been planting flowers in our garden so it is good for bees. Earth Day is important because it reminds us how important our planet is.

Erin has made a five part Drama. It's amazing. I can view it but unfortunately unable to include as part of the newsletter (techy issues). Erin - so sorry we are unable to share it this time. When we return to normality and home-based technology is not relied upon then we should be able to share it easily with the community.
