Show Racism the Red Card Day: Friday 20 October 2023
As part of our ongoing work on supporting diversity and inclusion, we are celebrating the ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ national initiative in School on Friday 20th October 2023.
Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. The charity was set up in January 1996 and it utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society. It has now also expanded into other sports.
The majority of the charity’s work involves the delivery of educational workshops to young people and adults in schools, workplaces and at events held in football stadiums. Across the UK, SRtRC provides educational sessions to more than 50,000 individuals per year.
On Friday 20th October, we invite our students to dress in red to show their support for the charity, with a suggested donation of £1, which will be collected during form time. This will be divided between the charity and the school’s Anti-Bullying Team to help provide future anti-bullying events throughout the year. If, however, students do not wish to participate, then they should attend in full uniform as normal.
We continue to work hard to address all disrespectful and derogatory behaviour in our school. Whilst not accepting any form of intolerance or prejudice, the importance of education in these issues is vital in changing hearts and minds.
In order to support this day further, students will have assemblies throughout the week to open the discussion around racism. Form Time activities will centre around students discussing what it is to be anti-racist.
We look forward to seeing the students supporting this fantastic charity and engaging in educational discussion to further their understanding.
