KS4 Options Process and Information Evening: Wednesday 8 January 2025
This is a very important and exciting time in your child’s education at The Buckingham School. Until now, students have had very little choice about which subjects they study, as they have been required to follow the National Curriculum.
As students move into KS4, they are given choices of the subjects that they would like to study. All students will follow the core curriculum of English Language GCSE, English Literature GCSE, Mathematics GCSE, Science GCSE, PE for health and fitness, Personal Development and Philosophy and Ethics. They are then required to pick four further subjects.
The aim of our Options Process is simple: every student should be given the opportunity to choose a broad and balanced curriculum that suits their interests and future aspirations. In order to support you and your child in making this important decision we have put in place the following timeline:-
- We would like to invite you all to a Year 9 Options Information Evening, which will take place on Wednesday 8th January 2025 at 6pm. During this evening, we will explain the Options Process in detail. Please book tickets via the following link by Tuesday 7th January 2025 to inform us of your attendance: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/tbs-events/t-lnggpag. Due to the capacity of the hall, we are limiting tickets to two tickets per household. Whilst students are welcome to come along, it is not essential that they are present as this will also be presented to them in an assembly. Our FOBS team will be on hand, serving refreshments, in return for a small donation.
- Options booklets and suggested pathway information will be released to parents on Thursday 9th January 2025.
- An online Options portal will open on Thursday 9th January for students to make their initial expression of interest for each subject.
- The online portal will close on Friday 24th January 2025 – these initial expressions of interest will help us build our Option Blocks, avoiding as many clashes as possible and hopefully building our curriculum around our students’ needs.
- A virtual online Parents Evening will be held on Thursday 6th February 2025 – this will be a meeting with a senior member of staff who will talk through the chosen Options.
