Transition Journey Timeline
- Welcome letters - will be sent out to families in the Spring term.
- Liaising/Visiting your child's school - we work closely with your child’s primary school. We visit all primary schools to meet every student joining us, and we work closely with Year 6 teachers and SENDCos, to gather as much information as possible about all the children starting with us. Students that are recognised by their primary school as needing extra support with transition are offered an enhanced transition. Information regarding this will be sent out at a later date if applicable.
- Transition Days, Tuesday 2 July & Wednesday 3 July - the Transition days are set by Buckinghamshire Council and this year, we welcome all our new students to a two-day Transition Programme, taking place on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 July. As well as getting to know their new classmates, students have the opportunity to experience lessons, meet their Form Tutor and Year 9 ‘Mentors’ (the Year 9 Mentors are volunteers from our current Year 9 who look after the students during the Transition days and in the first few weeks of the new term in September).
Parents and carers, along with their children, will be invited to attend a Welcome Evening on the Tuesday evening, where we share our vision for your child’s future at The Buckingham School. We will be communicating our plans for this event later in the term. Our Transition days are traditionally a very exciting and enjoyable experience for all.
Extra Support Sessions - we work very closely with the primary schools to ensure all children make a smooth transition. We usually run sessions throughout the summer term for those children who need extra support with the transition from primary to secondary school.
